Noord-Brabant is a province in the south of the Netherlands with a population of 2.5 million. Within the Netherlands the region of Noord-Brabant is recognised as a strong region in terms of R&D and innovation with a strong technological profile.


Together with the Provinces Zeeland and Limburg, Noord Brabant has a Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialisation for South-Netherland (RIS3). The RIS3 South Netherlands aims to further develop the region of South Netherlands into a top innovative economic region. This mission is coherent with the fact that half of the region’s economic growth comes from innovation.


Through a careful consideration of the region’s strong knowledge institutes, national and international recognition of the cooperation model as well as the region's unique ecosystem, the following five areas of smart specialisation of the South Netherlands were identified:High-tech systems; Chemistry; Life sciences & health; Logistics and Agriculture & Food.

Is the region looking for international/European/interregional collaboration opportunities? 

Yes- We are looking for clustering approach concerning medtech, Bio-molecular Sensing, Data Science in Health, Healthy Daily Living, Medical Imaging and Monitoring, Monitor - Diagnose and Present, Regenerative Medicine and Robotics.

For regulations we need to look at an European Level. Regulations should change and make the use of data of patients easier for companies. We need to look for quicker time to market for innovations, and replacing the old fashioned animal test by modern te
