Background
Norte or Northern Portugal is the most populous region in Portugal, ahead of Lisboa, with a population of 3.7 million. Portugal has a vibrant and innovative research and development ecosystem and a high quality health care system.
Under the auspices of the Health Cluster Portugal (HCP), the Portuguese "Health ecosystem" is developing innovative projects in areas which include active and healthy ageing, translational and clinical research, ambient assisted living, eHealth, and health tourism. Particular strategic areas of interest include preventative, personalised and participatory medicine (diseases - neurodegenerative, cancer, cardiovascular, degenerative osteoarticular, inflammatory, infectious, metabolic).
Within Portugal universities, R&D institutions, hospitals and companies are all working in collaboration in the development of new solutions for improving human health.
